World Karaoke Championships
Confirmed for Killarney

September 2011

It was announced today that The World Karaoke Championships will take place in the INEC, Gleneagle, Killarney in September 2011.

The announcement was made when Heidi Moijanen, Director of Foreign Affairs, Karaoke World Championships Organisation, travelled to Kerry from Helsinki to finalise the contract with Patrick O'Donoghue, Managing Director of the INEC.

In excess of 25 countries are expected to participate in the Championships which will take place from September 8 th to 10 th 2011. National trials are conducted in each participating country with the winners competing in the International finals for the titles of male and female Karaoke World Champions. The participants, along with their families, supporters and karaoke enthusiasts from all over the world are expected to converge on Killarney for the event.

The National trials in the US are expected to attract huge international attention this year with television network ABC set to broadcast the event. The 2010 Championship will take place in Moscow , Russia in September.

The INEC, Gleneagle, Killarney in association with Karaoke Ireland , The Kerry Convention Bureau and Fáilte Ireland supported Killarney's bid to host the 2011 Championships.

Ann Marie Campell and Liz Cosgrove, official Irish partners of the Karaoke World Championships, put Killarney forward as the host destination.

“We have travelled to numerous World Karaoke Championships and always wished that Ireland would some day host the Championships and having viewed what Killarney and the INEC has on offer we immediately recognised Killarney's potential to host such an event.

“Killarney's world renowned natural beauty combined with its world class facilities and tradition of welcoming visitors for hundreds of years means that we know our thousands of Global Karaoke friends can look forward to the best of welcomes in Killarney,” said Ann Marie Campbell.

“Also, the fact that so many people can stay on site at the INEC, in the official event accommodation, was a major factor taken into consideration when choosing the INEC venue,” said Liz Cosgrove.

Local organisers are already working with Kerry Convention Bureau and Fáilte Ireland on a festival programme for the event. In the meantime Karaoke Ireland will hold its first ever Karaoke Festival in Portlaoise later this year.

Hightlights from 2009

KWC TEAM IRELAND 2009
Cork crooner and Ireland 's paddypower.com Karaoke Champion Adrian Kenny wowed the world and made Karaoke history last night when he was crowned the 2009 Karaoke World Champion.

Adrian saw off competition from 32 other countries on the world stage in Lahti Finland . The Cork man blew everyone away with his stunning rendition of "Hallelujah",  "Fairytale", " I Know I'll Never Love This Way Again " & "Purple Rain" over the weekend. As well as walking away with the gold medal Trophy and €3000 from his Irish sponsors Paddy Power plus cash prize also from KWC Organisation, Adrian will jet back out to Finland over the next few months to record his debut single & album which will be promoted all over Europe.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “What a fantastic result for Ireland and a brilliant achievement for Adrian. We might not win the Eurovision any more but we're world champions when it comes to Karaoke! Adrian was absolutely phenomenal and this win could be just the start of things
to come for him career wise.”

Paddy Power are so proud of Adrian that they've even begun taking bets on him topping the charts.
It's just 6/1 that Adrian tops the Irish charts and 33/1 he reaches the top spot on the UK charts.

Dubliner Jennifer Ward, the paddypower.com Irish Karaoke Queen didn't disappoint either, finishing 4th in the female category plus she won the Audience vote and received a top of the range Karaoke system.

Jennifer sang "If I were a Boy", "I Just Wanna Make Love To  You", "At Last" & "Listen" and gave great performances throughout the competition. Also Jennifer will feature on October 7th on RTE's "Off The Rails" whose team dressed & groomed her for the Championships.

Over 60 Irish supporters flew to Finland for the event and it was a fantastic trip had by all from the moment we arrived in Finland. On Wednesday we were taken to Heinola where the karaoke world championships began and Irish run hotel "Cronins" run by Stephen & Marika Cronin gave us a great welcome party with Karaoke buffet etc

On Thursday we had the  KWC Cocktail meet & greet party in Lahti City Hall a wonderful experience for our singers to meet the competitors from all over the world. This is a competition not only for music but also for friendships to be made and that certainly happened as we made some great friends who each and everyone of us will keep contact with. Friday it was competition time and the excitment began this year it was bigger than ever as www.karaokeuniverse.net (USA partners)  Cindy & Loveless broadcasted it to the whole world via internet so all the friends and family that could not attend were watching us from home.

To them we are eternally grateful as they brought the contest to a new level with over half a million hits on the Friday to dounble that on the Saturday Saturday was the longest but again the most exciting of the trip as it was eliminating rounds and the talent was fantastic .We are so proud Jennifer & Adrian got to sing their 4 songs that they rehearsed for the competiton and the roar of the crowd when they reached the top 5 .....

Congratulations to Jennifer who won the hearts of eveyone by winning the audience vote in Lahti Hall and Congratulations to Adrian who is now the male 2009 World Karaoke Champion....

We would like to thank KWC Finland for putting on for the 6th year a fantastic venue sound and for bringing this fantastic competition into the lives of amateur singers who they have given a global platform to. Our Thanks to the management and staff of the Alex Park Hotel .... To all or supporters who joined us and gave our singers inspiration, also to all the KWC Partners who made us feel so welcome and we are looking forward to KWC 2010.

A final Thank You to www.paddypowerbingo.com  Paddy Power who have been sponsoring this event for the past five years and the Paddy Power team Conor McIntyre, Sharon Mchugh & Will Byrne, who are always on hand to assist us with KWC Ireland.
